Dear Mr. gross organ suit guy: We all appreciate your enthusiasm to teach the youth human biology. But there's a reason God gave us skin. Science is great and everything, but could you take it down a peg? Thanks in advance. your friend, Recon.

Boney M: Daddy Cool

galerie04_05_1

My parents loved Disco, and I grew up listening to tons of ABBA and Boney M. I used to love dancing around to Boney M.'s Rivers Of Babylon as a little kid, and still have no compunctions about rocking it on the ipod if I need to cheer myself up on a gloomy NY morning. Boney M. are like the middle path of Disco; a bit less ridiculous than Dschingis Khan but with a hint more cheese than ABBA.

Watch as Bobby Farrell gets his motherfunking freak on in this awesome live rendition of one of Boney's greatest hits. Clearly Mr. Farrell has copious amounts of ants in his pants, and said ants are giving him the strong desire to dance. Good god I wish I could do that. Those moves deserve a new word: Fantabulastical.

Satoshi Kamiya's Phoenix

toilette-paper-nose-blowing-hat-thumb

Satoshi Kamiya is one of the best origami masters in the world. Watch as he takes one piece of paper and folds it 1360 times in 10 hours to make a ridiculously cool looking phoenix. Check out his site here, it's Japanese, but has some really cool pix. The dragon on the front page might be the most amazing thing in the history of the world. But I could be exaggerating a bit.

Scissor Sisters: She's My Man

109-gob-magic

Check out the matrix ping pong-esque bossness of the new Scissor Sister single "She's My Man." I don't love the song like their totally awesome "Take Your Mama Out", but it has sufficient bossitude to satiate the jaded music nazi inside me. Cool fx. Technology and camera tricks translate into lasers and magic to me. And as the old saying goes, magic is truly a magical thing.

Strange And Funny Signs

stop

I stumbled across this picture set via a link to vintage glamour flight pics via Geisha Asobi. They are labeled "wacky", but I absolutely refuse to call them that. That word has received the official Recon embargo treatment along with "yummy", "It's all good", and any song by the Black Eyed Peas.

News Report: What is "Emo"?

emo_philips_old

While most of you come to M4H to get your stupid on, I've been told some come to get their learn on. That's a filthy untruth, but whatever. Lying is the new honesty. You heard it here first.

I always thought Emo was just the first name of creepy Crispin Glover contemporary Emo Phillips. Apparently it's much more. Wiki says " The term emo as a music genre has become broader and broader with time, and now is loosely understood to mean "rock music with emotionally-based lyrics or effect." (wiki) While it was once a style of music pioneered by bands like Fugazi, it's morphed into a style of dress, attitude, and way of life.

Check out this "report", and learn why Emo is scaring the crap out of people who for some reason still watch local news. The best part is that the examples they use to explain Emo are actually making fun of Emo. Genius. Way to crack the case, Holmes.

On a lighter note, check out one of the best parts of Weird Al's UHF starring none other than the original Emo, Emo Phillips.

Russian Mob Tombstones

grim_reaper

Everyone knows that the Russian mob have got the fashion game on lockdown. What they lack in morality and human decency they clearly make up for with silk patterned Armani shirts and chunky bling chic. What, didn't you hear? Murdering murderers are the new black. And unless you've been living in a cave deep in the recesses of nobodyville, you'd undoubtedly know that laser-etching a likeness of yourself on your tombstone is so hot right now.

Shari Vari: The Scene, Detroit, 1982

dance1

Raves might have blown up in the UK, but Techno started in Detroit. The band A Number Of Names released what is considered to be the first Detroit techno song in '81 called "Shari Vari", which went on to become a international dance hit, and helped launch Techno in Detroit and around the world. Check out this video of a local Detroit dance show called "The Scene" where the song debuts. The dancing is gloriously old school and the music couldn't be doper. Look for the guy with the guitar, he is my new personal hero. Retro electro, early 80's haircuts, unisuits, popping, and locking: these are a few of my favorite things. I'm pretty sure this is what heaven looks like.

The boys over at Graffiti Research Lab have come up with some astounding setup that allows them to tag buildings with a laser pointer. I had to hire someone to hold my jaw so it wouldn't keep falling on the ground. Fucking amazing. So cool you'll drool.

Beatbox Flute: Inspector Gadget

This guy puts the B in bananas. Watch Greg Patillo beatbox through a flute. Then sit back, bask in the dopeness, crack open a bottle of def, and sip on the boss effervescence for the next 3 and a half minutes.

Strange Restaurants

iro

Check out this list of strange restaurants from around the world...there are some good ones like Ninja New York, a place where waiters dressed like ninjas do magic tricks tableside. That is an awesome idea. The only way it could be better is if you had the option to fight them as an alternative to paying your bill. I think they missed the boat not including the Taiwanese toilet restaurant, but there are some gems here nonetheless. Like this one in Belgium called "Dinner In The Sky":

The Karate Kid: Johnny Vs. Daniel San

monkey_steals_peach

I just finished watching The Karate Kid, and thought I'd share the best 5 minutes of movie magic filmed during the entire decade of the 1980's with you all. If you don't cry or at least get chills once Johnny gets crane kicked in the dome piece you must be truly dead inside. Or a heartless Communist. Or a Cobra Kai sympathizer. If you can't feel anything watching this you're so cold your hypercolor shirts probably don't work. You get the idea. I want an All Valley Karate Championship poster more than I want Airwolf back on TV.

Cool Bowling Tricks

I went bowling the other day, and totally sucked at life doing it, but had a lot of fun in the process of pursuing the ultimate in sports suckitude. I couldn't catch a strike to save my life. I should really stick to poker, AKA the other "sport" for sedentary couch sloths like myself Anyway, check out these awesome bowling tricks. This one is banannas.

Mr. Savage, You're Madness Is Glorious

savage

Apparently prior to filming, Macho Man had been in the green room eating cocaine sandwiches and huffing gasoline, so you can imagine the interview that followed went swimmingly. Just substitute the phrase "Macho Madness" with "drug induced dimentia" for a better grasp on what in the wide, wide world of sports Randy Savage is blathering on about. Elizabeth probably gave him a wide berth when he had the chemical frenzies. If I managed him I'd keep a trident and net in my trunk.

This and many more old school wrestling interviews that can be found

Old School Japanese NES Commercials

zaboga

This is a sweet clip of 10 amazing NES commercials from Japan. #8 features porky man Steve Balmer-esque dancing. #7 has a giant fish running in traffic. The rest feature robots, running, frantic happiness, blinky shiny music sound, and double plus good terrific awesome surprise. Please to press play with permission. Thanks with gratitude.

Awesomely Awful Local TV Ads

tv-bjbear

I've said it once, said it twice, so I'll say it thrice. Nothing is sweeter than local commercials. There really needs to be a website that archives the thousands of fabulously shitty camcorder TV moments like the following.

Most TV salesmen come off like they would club a room full of newborn puppies to sell you something. I suppose these two gentleman probably would as well, but they most likely are too too busy living deep in outer fucking space.

First we have Sammy Stephens, and his "Mini Mall Rap". Here's the message: Montgomery Flea market is just like a mini mall. There. You just got the whole song. Now watch the fabulous ad lib dance routine, savor the sugary catchiness, and try making it through the day not singing it. I want to dance, dammit. Dance until my eyes bug out of my head.

Now watch "The Family Man" get totally crazy person banannas selling America's shittiest cars. I think his plan was to use his wacky antics and animated husky shenanigans as a smokescreen to cover up the incredible mediocrity of his merchandise. No matter, anyone who does cartwheels to win your affection gets both of my opposable thumbs up.

Best Bollywood Clip Of All Time

Why do I provide you with the single greatest Bollywood clip of all time? It's simple. Because I love you.

Lord, where do I even begin with this magnificent piece of cinematic history. Fantastical retro Indian breakdancing? Check. Freaky Animal people? Surrealist backdrops? Check. Totaly boss Lucha Libre unitards? Check. flamboyant man scarf action? Check. This clip has it all. From a smoking breakbeat soundtrack, to a nightmare inducing color scheme. There's even a monkey man in it. And those with a keen eye for the strange may recognize Tollwood megastar Chiranjeevi from the amazing Indian thriller clip I posted a while back. Either way, you will undoutedly lose motor functions watching this glorious monstrosity of old school spectacularness. A throw back to those fever induced disturbing dreams of yesteryear.

Spectreman Vs. Space Apeman Gori

0409219fr

You all know how much I dig old Japanese Sci Fi, and how I truly believe the crappier the better. One show I've been looking to get decent clips of is Spectreman. Spectreman is an old show from Japan that featured one of the most badass villains of all: Doctor Gori. He's a monkey with a blond wig and a jumpsuit who aims to take over the Earth with monsters created from pollution. (you might recognize him from my blog header). He also has a sidekick, Karis, who happens to be a giant gorilla. This is what Spectreman looks like:

b0003180_2515743

If I haven't hooked you already, just watch. This episode is dubbed in English, and has giant fights in the city, monkeys floating in space, and an awesome final fight between Spectreman and two Gorillas in 70's slow mo in the desert. It's just about the weirdest, crappiest, and bossest thing I've seen in many internet nerd moons. Enjoy..

Here's Episode 1:

Episode 2:
(FYI: 1.5 minutes in is a totally awesome monkey fight..)

Reactable - Synth Prototype

041004D2_IMG2464_kokopiano2

Besides my occasional blogwhore binges, another hobby I enjoy is making music. So when I saw this, I bugged out as any good music dork should. Here's the description:

" The reactable, is a multi-user electronic music instrument with a tabletop tangible user interface. Several simultaneous performers share complete control over the instrument by moving physical objects on a luminous table surface. By moving and relating these objects, representing components of a classic modular synthesizer, users can create complex and dynamic sonic topologies, with generators, filters and modulators, in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer or graspable flow-controlled programming language." (via Youtube)

My heart and ears and brain are all a twitter simultaneously. This thing is fucking amazing. It's like Star Trek meets Blue Man Group at a Rave. Where do I sign? I'd sell my kidney for one of these. Or at least someone else's kidney.

WTF!!! It's official. Regular Renaissance fair nerds = old and busted. Centaurs = new hotness. Bravo, San Diego. Bravo. I'd kill to be a fly on the wall at one of their weekly meetings. I wonder what their chairs look like.

And speaking of Centaurs, watch Chris Walken on SNL interview one:

Ebony 70's Hair Styles

traficant james 7 18 02

Two things I've wished for since childhood: Bionic powers, and the ability to grow an afro. God do I envy those few who dare to defy gravity with their style and grace. And if I could grow one, I would have to come up with a good name for it, like the Leviathan, or Vertical Thunder.

Check out this spread from a 1970's Ebony ad. It features some pretty boss hair styles, with even more fantastic names. Like "The Perfecto"..

Return To The Planet Of The Apes- Animated Version

It goes without saying, but I suppose I'll go ahead and say it anyway. Planet of the Apes: totally fucking boss. Easily one the greatest movie series of all time. Even the later, weirder ones were pretty fantastic. I never knew there was a cartoon version of it. I feel like I've been living in a deep dark well, buried beneath miles of ignorance and stupidity. I can almost hear my inner nerd crying out of starvation and neglect. Why, why didn't anyone tell me about this? Argh! Anyway, check out part 1..

And here's Pt. 2 and Pt. 3.

And just for fun, check out one of my favorite Simpsons moments, Troy McClure starring in "Stop The Planet Of The Apes! I Want To Get Off!" :

"I Love You, Dr. Zaius!" God, that gets me every time.

Daft Punk Meets The Charleston

Someone took Daft Punk's "Around The World" and set it to an old school video of people doing the Charleston (who at times resemble uprocking B-Boys in 3-piece suits) resulting in a nice mesh of old and new. Definitely the bees knees. Oh yeah, and I almost forgot. I officially declare the Charleston to be the best fucking dance ever in the universe. Those guys are ice cold.
